Boy meets girl….Boy and girl realize they both are fascinated with maple sugaring and Slippery Slope Maple Farm is born.
The start of the journey…
Back in 2014, Girl starts on a solo maple sugaring adventure in the most humble way possible- one big old maple tree with 4 taps in Lowell, Massachusetts. The sap was boiled down on a turkey fryer using propane. It took FOREVER. Girl was thrilled to end up with a 1/2 gallon of syrup at the end of it all. Despite the time and effort, a maple love affair began.
Stepping it up a notch…
In late 2018, Boy meets Girl and 2019 becomes their first maple sugaring season together. That same old maple tree was tapped along with a few others and a new “barrel evaporator” was purchased. It worked, but it was another slow process. They soldiered on…and started dreaming of buying a property in
Vermont to convert into a maple farm.
The Maple Farm is born…
In 2021, the dream of a maple farm became a reality with the purchase of a home in Starksboro, VT. It was a larger forest of sugar maples than expected so it was time to start thinking ahead. The first two sugaring years were done outside with an evaporator the Boy made from brick. Those Vermont winters were tough and he braved a lot of cold and nasty weather to produce those syrup batches.
Vermont Sugar House becomes a reality…
In 2024, the beautiful sugar house was built and the handmade evaporator with replaced with a much larger, more efficient one from LaPierre. Now, things were really rocking. Slippery Slope Maple Syrup is produced the old fashioned way- wood fired, no reverse osmosis, with hand filtering and bottling. These traditional processing methods make the finished product shine.
