On the Maple Farm
Maintenance is a year-round endeavor for us that requires careful attention to detail, dedication to quality, and a deep respect for the natural resources on our farm. By implementing sound management practices and staying proactive in maintenance efforts, we’ve created a sustainable process that fits in perfectly with our beautiful Vermont countryside.
Farm maintenance
Tree Care: Keeping maple trees healthy is essential for a successful sugaring operation. This includes regular pruning to remove dead or diseased branches, promoting good air circulation and maintaining overall tree health. Proper tree care helps maximize sap production and ensures the longevity of our trees.
Tapping and Tubing Maintenance: Beforeeach sugaring season, taps and tubing systems need to be inspected and repaired as needed. This involves replacing taps, repairing leaks in tubing, and ensuring proper installation to prevent damage to the trees.
Forest Management
Much of our time during the “off season” is spent managing our forest. This involves invasive species control, reforestation efforts, and sustainable harvesting practices to ensure the long-term health and productivity of our maple trees. Sustainable harvesting is particularly important to the health of our farm since all our fuel for sap evaporation comes from our own forest.
